Scroll Down for Ride Across America Photos:
On the trip, I rode/carried/pushed/pulled my 1087 Trek 400 Elance bicycle 3,528 miles. I crossed through 14 states: California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, and New Jersey. In those states I went through 5 state capitals: Sacramento, CA; Carson City, NV; Lincoln, NE; Indianapolis, IN; and Columbus, OH.` I Reached the Atlantic Ocean with the same front wheel, tire, and tube that I had when I left the Pacific Ocean. There were several repairs I had to make on the way:
Replaced bicycle saddle in Carmichael, CA.
Repaired punctured tube x1 just east of Heber City, UT (due to piece of wire)
Replaced chain in Lincoln, NE (normal wear and tear)
Repaired punctured tubes x2 west of Peoria, IL (punctured due to cracked rim, see below)
Replaced rear tire west of Peoria, IL (normal wear and tear)
Replaced rear wheel and freewheel in Peoria, IL due to cracked rim
Replaced brake pads a few times
Replaced a bolt that holds the front of the rear rack to the rear of the bicycle frame in Clinton, IN
Also made repairs to a damaged (non-weight bearing) section of the rear rack in Clinton, IN using JB weld, nails, and hose clamps.
