I started very early again this morning, while it was still dark, and rode through some very sandy desert—so sandy that sand was blowing onto the road in places! I didn’t get any pictures of that part as it was still too dark. I was in a pretty isolated area this morning—isolated means that there aren’t a lot of other people around. It was so isolated, in fact, that I had to ride 55 miles just to get to the first little town where I stopped for some snacks.
Here is a picture of an irrigation canal I saw on the side of the road. Close to the city here, people grow different kinds of plants, but since this area is a desert, that means it’s not going to rain very much. So farmers use the irrigation canals to bring lots of water to spray on the plants (or crops) so that they will grow:
Here are some bales of hay or straw that they have placed to feed animals…I’m not sure what animals, maybe horses. What shape are the bales? They look almost like a cube shape, except that they are a little longer. We call that shape a “rectangular prism.”
I made it to Blythe today, and will be camping in my tent north of the city this evening! Tomorrow I’ll be crossing over the Colorado River into Arizona towards the city of Wenden. I’ll catch you all later and I hope you enjoy these pictures:
