Today I rode for over 50-60 miles around Phoenix and through its different suburbs and attached cities, including the beautiful city of Mesa. There were bicycle paths that went next to the canals there. Canals are tunnels that are built by people that carry water around. They are different from rivers because canals run straight and rivers run curvy. Also canals are made by people and rivers are naturally occurring (meaning they’re made by God). Here is a picture of part of the bike trail I took near Phoenix; you can see the canal next to it on the right:

After getting back to Highway 60 out in the country, I crossed into the Tonto National Forest. It’s weird that there are forests out in the desert, but there are! The main plants that grows in this forest (that I’ve seen so far, anyway) are saguaro cactuses! There are also some little desert bushes or trees of some kind. Here are a few pictures:

Coming into Superior I could see the beautiful city shining in the sunlight from many miles away. Here’s a picture of the city from afar; you might have to zoom in really good to see the buildings (they look little when you’re very far away).

The city of Superior that I’m visiting now is next to some mountains; you can see them behind the city in the pictures. The only way for cars to get over those mountains is through a tunnel on Highway 60. I will be going through that tunnel later and finishing my journey in the city of Globe, AZ this evening!

Here is a picture of Queen Creek, which I went over a few times and will cross over again before going through the tunnel. It’s dry! Why do you think it’s dry? I think it’s probably because we’re in a desert, and it doesn’t rain much in the desert.

I hope you enjoy the rest of the pictures I took today. If I take more pictures later on the way to the town of Globe, I’ll try to post them tomorrow!
